Tonight is the first of a SOLD OUT two-night stand at the Continental Club in Houston. It’s hard to put in to words the excitement and enthusiasm people have displayed as they pick up tickets to the show. Smiling is infectious. You see that in every Suffers pic and it’s spread to their fans. Heck, I’m smiling as I write this.
But, everyone is smiling because the secret is officially out. The Suffers are kicking open a door and spreading the good word: HOUSTON! Everything about this band is Houston. Another tour will commence and this time, even more, the band will be Ambassadors of Houston, Disciples of H-town, and champions of this humid, sprawl we call home. And we LOVE it!
Yes, the secret is out………Ladies and Gentlemen, the SUFFERS!
Sig’s Lagoon presents “Street Waves: New Screen Prints by Carlos Pozo”
“Street Waves” features 6 new prints by print-maker Carlos Pozo. “Street Waves” takes its title from a song by legendary 1970s post-punk band Pere Ubu. Pozo’s explosive, fragmented prints are heavily influenced by the high energy sound and collage aesthetic of late 1970s punk and post-punk music and graphic design. Appropriately enough, the exhibit is being held at a record store. Following the reception, Pozo’s band Raceway will perform live at The Continental Club along with friends Camera Cult and Young Girls.
Carlos Pozo is an artist, designer and musician born in Chile and working and living in Houston, Texas.
Opening reception is January 23, 6-8pm
exhibit runs until March 1

ONE NIGHT ONLY! Sig’s Lagoon and Space Four Zero present DARA PUSPITA “The Greatest Girl Group That N(Ever Was” Tribute exhibit by Sticky Fingers – Art Prints Cambodia in HOUSTON at Sig’s Solid Gas Gallery n’ Gifts Friday August 28th 5pm 3708 Main, right above The Continental Club. This tribute exhibition has toured Cambodia, Ubud Writers Festival in Bali, Europe, Melbourne & Sydney and is now blasting off to The USA.
“Their name translates to Flower Sisters, but Indonesia’s first all-girl rock band Dara Puspita hardly cut an image of innocence in the 1960s with wild gyrations and throaty vocals that President Sukarno viewed as insane and later had them likened to Russia’s feminist punk group Pussy Riot” WSJ.
I woke up today with the biggest grin. Last night was surreal for me and I’m sure the rest for the Continental Club, Houston, TX audience. Having Shuggie Otis come by Sig’s afterwards was icing on the cake. I’ll be a passenger on this “Freedom Flight” for a long while! Thank you Shuggie, Nick, Paul, and the rest.
