Candid wedding photography – wedding photojournalism – what’s in a name? One suggests the snapshots taken by friends or family mostly after the blessed event. These might be informally posed – but usually not at all. Photojournalism, wedding or otherwise, makes one think of a documentary…maybe even artistically crafted. But still it’s usually a succinct report – too brief and typically edited to reveal what may be, in fact, the true essence of the day.
From the sweetness of the Traditional under-nose kiss to pain and frustration as seen in Trouble in Tragus, this collection of photographs informs us about thoughts, ideas and emotions that were entwined around the different but always nuptially skewed occasions. There’s the wry humor seen in pictures like I thought we were wearing white or I’m so happy for you where the photograph seems to speak to what must be going through the subjects’ minds. Rounding out the day’s story is the erotic intrigue that can be imagined in Victoria’s Secret or possibly even It is happening.
All of these photographs are chosen because they capture those private moments in public settings that tighten the aperture providing more depth, and a finer focus, and thus more fidelity to the record of the occasions told here in the brides, and the lies, and the beers.
